Massimo is there anything in this index on the Stoic thought on hope, maybe I just don't see it.If not could you give your take on how the Stoics see hope.
The Stoics are not very sympathetic to the notion of hope. What will happen will happen, regardless of whether we wish it or not. What’s up to us is how we respond.
There is an article by John Creigan in Philosophy Now magazine April May 2025 on hope which aligns with my attitude towards hope in as much as it is unproductive and hinders more than helps. The Stoic view supports me in this (as expected ) not so much in terms of que sera sera, rather how we use it and deal with the circumstances that arise.Would you call it an indifferent?
An indifferent is a good or event that can potentially be used to practice virtue (preferred) or that hinders virtue (dispreferred). Depending on one’s conception of hope, it may get in the way of virtue, not facilitate it.
The Index now also contains the podcast summaries that I publish whenever we finish a particular text, like Plato’s Ion, or Epicurus’s Letter to Menoeceus. Each summary in turns contains the links to all episodes pertinent to that text.
The Index has now been updated all the way back to the beginning of publication (i.e., 9 September 2022). I have also added additional subheadings for ease of navigation.
With all due respect, I will ask this question to Mr. Massimo: I saw in an interview that wealth is not sought as such (more or less like that) and my question is why then does he charge for access to this knowledge, isn't that contradictory? Again... with all due respect, just to know the explanation, I believe in capitalism as one of the best "inventions" of society.
Giancarlos, the Stoic notion is that wealth is not important, not that it isn’t useful, so long as it doesn’t come into contradiction with virtue. If you see something unvirtuous in my behavior because I charge a small amount for full access to the site, please let me know.
Whew. Founfpd code. Will we be having a fuscusdionnofvAristotlebsumukarbtonpursuit?
We’ll have much more on Aristotle coming up…
👏👏👏

Glad you appreciate it!
This should keep me busy for a few moments. It's a huge list - very impressive Massimo.
