While you were in the the Eternal City, the NYT printed a Page One article about a “poison” called “alcohol.” It coulda been written by a modern-day Puritan. Yes, someone’s judgement was impaired. I loved the comments, all written by much wiser people.

I saw the article, had the same reaction. Besides, if I have to die of something, which I certainly do, very slow alcohol poisoning ain’t that bad a way to go…

Gary, well, that’s according to the latest research. Never trust the latest research on these things, wait until things are settled.

The most important point is that alcohol in moderation has very small and long term negative effects. So does breathing air in New York City, to pick one. But I’m still not going to move to Montana. Life’s too much more interesting in the Big Apple.
